About Us
Located on Virginia's Eastern Shore, in the town of Cheriton, Cheriton Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1948 due to the town's need for an emergency services department. We are a thirty-four member fire company that provides emergency services over thirty square miles in lower Northampton County. CVFD is the home to 4 engines, including a tanker-pumper, 2 tankers, and a ladder truck, as well as a personnel car.
As a volunteer organization, we rely on community support to maintain our department and equipment. Our primary source of funding comes from our weekly Tuesday night Bingos. Other fundraising activities include Big Bucks Raffles, Bingo during the summer at Cherrystone Campground and other events throughout the community.
In 2006, we finalized a USDA grant and were able to start building a new home for our department, which is located at 21334 Bayside Rd. After going several years with our trucks spread throughout the community, we finally have them under one roof. Cheriton Volunteer Fire Department, again, would like to thank you for your continuous support.
